PTSA’s legislative mission is to speak on behalf of all children at the local, state and federal levels. One of the founding purposes of PTSA is “to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.” As your PTSA legislative advocacy co-chairs, we serve as local officers of the largest grassroots child advocacy organization in the state of California. We strive to demonstrate leadership on children’s issues at the local level by educating PTSA members, community members and elected officials about PTSA’s issues of concern and legislative priorities. No amount of fundraising can impact schools as much as a single piece of legislation.
The California State PTSA takes positions on legislation based on position statements in the California State PTSA Toolkit, California State PTSA convention resolutions, California State PTSA Legislation Platform and National PTSA positions and convention resolutions. As LFMS unit legislative co-chairs, we provide PTSA members with information about PTSA positions on current legislation and issues.
